Westerly Rhode Island Lions Club

The Westerly Lions Club is a secular service organization which is part of Lions Clubs International. Our local chapter currently has 93 members consisting of both men and women. We are best known for our work to help the visually impaired but our service work extends much farther than that. With both monetary and people power we assist in local, state and world causes.

Our local club, Westerly Lions Club, was founded in 1926 by several forward looking Westerly residents. Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917 and was no where near the size it is today with 1.3 million members in 44,500 clubs in 201 countries. In RI we are the 4th oldest club with a rich history of serving.

Lions International Purpose:

· To create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

· To promote the principles of good government and good citizenship.

· To take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.

· To unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.

· To provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.

· To encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.
